How does stepparent adoption work?

Here's the stepparent adoption process from start to finish:

Step 1: Apply (10–15 minutes)

Complete our online questionnaire at stepparentadoption360.com/questionnaire. You'll provide information about your family, the child, and the biological parent.

Step 2: Documents Prepared (24 hours)

We prepare your complete document package — petition, consent forms or abandonment affidavit, financial affidavit, order of adoption, background check forms, and all supplemental forms required by your specific county.

Step 3: File with Court

You file the signed documents with your local court and pay the filing fee.

Step 4: Service of Process

The biological parent is formally notified of the adoption proceedings.

Step 5: Background Check
