How much does stepparent adoption cost?

Separate the document-preparation price from the costs charged by the court and other providers. Our standard SA360 preparation price is $349 for the first adoptee and $99 for each additional adoptee in the same case. That makes the preparation price $448 for two adoptees or $547 for three. Court costs are separate.

Examples of real fee differences

The Pasco County Clerk's schedule lists $400 for a Chapter 63 adoption filing. By contrast, the California Courts adult-adoption guide identifies a $20 petition fee. Those are different proceedings in different places, not a nationwide price range. Extra charges may still apply.

Ask the clerk whether multiple adoptees can share a case and what additional charges apply. Our additional-adoptee preparation price does not determine the clerk's billing rules.

Avoid surprises before paying

Ask for a written fee breakdown and note its date. Determine whether a proposed charge is mandatory, optional or conditional. If fees are a barrier, ask the court about its fee-waiver process and eligibility. Do not assume a waiver has been granted until the court confirms it.

Attorney charges depend on the work involved. A contested termination, unusual parentage issue or interstate dispute can require representation beyond document preparation. Compare written quotes for the same work rather than treating any single attorney estimate as a guaranteed saving.
