StepParent Adoption 360

What if the other parent refuses to sign the consent?

If the other parent has abandoned the child by failing to maintain a meaningful relationship, the court will proceed without their consent. This is extremely common — most of our 34,000+ completed adoptions did not include consent from the absent parent. The court examines whether the parent maintained real contact and support, not whether they technically agree to the adoption.
