A Florida adoption lawyer's price depends on the work and agreement for your case; there is no verified statewide quote that every firm charges. Ask for a written scope and cost estimate. A preparation package and legal representation provide different services, even when both relate to an adoption petition.
The Florida Bar's consumer fee guide explains that fees depend on matters such as complexity, time and experience. It distinguishes flat fees, hourly fees and separate cost deposits. Use that framework to compare actual proposals rather than assuming one advertised range covers every adoption.
Compare a proposal by the work it covers
The following is a practical adoption-specific planning checklist, not a price list or a legal-services quote.
| Adoption task | A question to ask before hiring |
|---|---|
| Assessing the legal route | Does the engagement cover who must consent or receive notice? |
| Preparing and filing the petition | Who files, handles corrections and communicates with the court? |
| Missing-parent or disputed issues | Is this included, excluded or billed under a new agreement? |
| Court participation | Which appearances or hearings does the quoted service cover? |
| Final order and records | Are certified orders and records-update work included? |
| Outside charges | Which clerk, service, investigation and other charges are additional? |
Keep the answers beside each proposal. If one quote covers a contested hearing and another only prepares a petition, the totals do not describe the same work.
Use real court costs in the comparison
For example, one private preparation package at $349 plus a confirmed $400 filing produces a $749 subtotal before other expenses. A lawyer's quote excluding filing costs also needs its court charge added. These are budgeting calculations, not a statement about what an individual lawyer charges or how much every family saves.
The official Orange County family schedule currently lists a $400 adoption filing. Confirm your own court's amount, case classification and additional charges. The filing is an expense regardless of which service helps prepare the petition, unless applicable court relief changes it.
Choose help for the questions your case raises
A disputed parent's status, unclear notice, an objection or an unusual financial consequence can require legal analysis. Florida Statutes §63.062 distinguishes several consent situations; a low price does not answer which one applies.
StepParent Adoption 360 has helped more than 34,000 families through document preparation. Our charge is $349 for the first child, $99 for each additional child, and $99 for optional mailed documents when selected. You manage filing and court participation. Read the current service terms; document preparation does not provide an attorney to represent you or decide a contested legal issue.
Take one useful next step
List the unresolved issues in your adoption, then ask a prospective professional which of those they will handle. Compare that answer, the written service scope and the complete budget before purchasing. For information about finding a lawyer or legal aid, use the Florida Bar's public consumer resources.
