Colorado offers two routes. A person aged 18 up to 21 may be adopted as a child with court approval, and an adult of any age may be adopted as heir at law. For the heir-at-law route, the person being adopted files a written answer that consents, and the petition is granted once consent is filed. The petition is filed in the juvenile court of the county where you live or where the person being adopted lives.
