For an Alaska stepparent adoption of one minor child, separate the document-preparation price from the court's charges and any case-specific expenses. Our standard preparation price is $349. The Alaska Court System currently lists a $100 adoption filing fee. Together, those two items are $449 before other applicable costs or fee relief; $449 is not a promise of the final cost.
Build an Alaska budget by payee
| Item | Amount or question to confirm | Who receives payment |
|---|---|---|
| Our preparation service | $349 for the first adoptee; $99 per additional adoptee in the same case. | StepParent Adoption 360. |
| Adoption filing | $100 on the court's published schedule; confirm when filing. | Alaska Court System. |
| Required notice or service | Ask which deliveries your case requires and obtain a quote. | Applicable delivery or service provider. |
| Court-directed investigation or records | Budget for the actual requirement, if any. | The designated provider or agency. |
| Copies, certifications and record updates | Check the separate charge for each item needed. | Court clerk or records agency. |
| Legal assistance | Obtain a quote for the specific legal question or representation. | Your attorney, if retained. |
Confirm the filing charge and possible relief
The court's fee and waiver page lists adoption separately from divorce, custody and general civil cases. Its displayed schedule is effective May 1, 2023. Confirm the current adoption entry with the filing court rather than substituting a fee for a different kind of case.
The same page explains requesting an exemption using TF-920 when filing. A request requires a court decision; it is not an automatic discount. Court-fee relief does not change our service price or necessarily cover a private provider's charges.
Understand what a parent's agreement changes
A properly obtained consent may remove a dispute, but agreement does not set one universal total or eliminate every notice requirement. Under AS 25.23.100, notice obligations depend on the person's role and whether consent was obtained or dispensed with. Confirm the required procedure before buying service of process or assuming none is needed.
That statute also provides that a stepparent investigation and report are not required unless the court directs them. Thus, a standard private-home-study price should not be inserted into every Alaska budget. Read the Alaska investigation guide and follow the actual court instructions.
Make a written cost checklist
Before ordering or filing, collect:
- The number of adoptees and whether they belong in the same case.
- The court's filing amount, accepted payment method and exemption instructions.
- Required notices, signatures and any associated provider quotes.
- Any ordered investigation, records review or legal work.
- Copies or certificates needed after the decree, and travel or mailing expenses.
Record each amount separately. Do not describe a preparation-plus-filing subtotal as an all-inclusive adoption price.
Match the service to the work required
Our preparation service supplies documents; the court decides the adoption. Read the service-versus-attorney guide for disputed rights or legal advice, and the payment-arrangements guide before assuming installments are available. The Terms of Service explain the court-acceptance guarantee's conditions.
Use the correct next guide
Follow the Alaska filing roadmap, then start the Alaska questionnaire with the actual circumstances. If the adoptee is an adult, use the Alaska adult-cost guide. A move or different filing jurisdiction calls for a separate California or Texas budget.
