For one adult, StepParent Adoption 360's standard document-preparation price is $349. The Alaska Court System's published fee page lists $100 to open an adoption case. Together, those two charges give a starting budget of $449, before any other expenses that apply to your case. This is a planning subtotal, not a guaranteed final bill.
Build an Alaska budget
| Budget item | Amount or next step |
|---|---|
| Our preparation for the first adoptee | $349, paid to our document-preparation service. |
| Adoption filing fee | The court's published schedule lists $100; confirm when filing. |
| More adoptees in the same case | Our service adds $99 per additional adoptee. Ask the clerk separately about court charges and petitions. |
| Certified records and copies | Request the number and price you actually need. |
| Additional court-directed work | Ask whether notice, investigation or other requirements create separate expenses. |
| Legal advice or representation | Obtain a written quote if your circumstances need an attorney. |
The Alaska Court System's fees and waiver guidance also lists copy and document-certification charges. A document fee is a separate line in your budget; the court filing fee does not purchase our service.
Do not budget from the minor-adoption checklist
Alaska's adult-adoption consent rules are different from its minor-adoption rules. AS 25.23.040(b) addresses the adult's written consent, a spouse's consent and a guardian's consent for an incapacitated adult. The petitioner's marital eligibility is a separate question. Do not assume that only one signature is always necessary.
Likewise, do not assume that every adult case has no investigation or notice costs. The statute contains conditions for dispensing with an investigation. Read the Alaska consent and notice guide and confirm what the court requires in your circumstances.
Ask about a filing-fee exemption
The court's fee page identifies TF-920, Request for Exemption from Payment of Fees, for ordinary cases. Ask the clerk how to submit it with your papers and wait for the court's decision. Applying does not establish approval, and a court exemption does not waive a private preparation or attorney fee.
Include the practical expenses
Keep a separate allowance for obtaining records, travel, missed work and any court-directed steps. Ask when you can request a hearing, who must attend and how the court handles an exemption request. A prepared petition does not guarantee an immediate hearing or a particular completion date.
Use the Alaska adult filing guide to organize your next steps. Filing in another state requires that state's requirements and lawful venue; compare the distinct California and Texas cost guides if those jurisdictions apply.
When you are ready, start the adult-adoption questionnaire with the actual adoptee, marital status and court location. Keep your preparation payment and court budget on separate lines.
