How soon after adoption can I update my child's documents in Mississippi?

You can start updating documents immediately after the finalization hearing — as soon as you have the signed adoption order from the Chancery Court.

Update timeline:

Same day or within days:

• [ ] Request certified copies of the adoption order from the court clerk
• [ ] Notify your health insurance (qualifying life event — 30–60 day window)
• [ ] Contact the child's school with the adoption order
• [ ] Update your employer benefits (add child as dependent)

Within 1–2 weeks:
